Snooped and Whammed!
Snoop Dogg is faced with two criminal charges last Friday as a concert expectator filed a battery charge against the rapper and that a State of California tax authority issued demands about the singer’s taxpaying problems. The trial was filed at a Los Angeles court house and with him accused are his bodyguards who were the persons who really beaten up the complaining fan. The tax lien had been put on by state officials in his South California home.
Well the battery case was not fresh anymore. It was filed through counsels of Richard Monroe Jr. in 2006. The opening statement of the camp of the plaintiff had the jurors watch the video of an alleged assault and battery of Snoop Dogg and his company. The assault, according to Monroe of Kent, Washington, happened last May 2005 when he attended a gig in Seattle where Snoop Dogg played a part. He said in court documents that he thought that Snoop made an “open invite” which made him approach and hop on the stage. Not too fast when Snoop’s posse rushed towards him and beat him. Monroe suffered a broken nose, black eyes, busted lip, and bruised ribs, hospital records where he was treated show. In addition to the assault, Monroe also said that his earrings studded with diamonds were lost together with his watch and wallet after the incident. He asks for a compensatory and punitive damages amounting to $22 million.
Snoop’s camp said in return that the actions of the rapper’s bodyguards are part of the standard operating procedure – that whoever approaches and hops on the stage without permission is considered a threat to artist thus it is but proper for the bodyguards to block Monroe during that May 2005 event.
On Snoop’s tax issue, the state said that the artist, also known as Calvin Broadus Jr. have to pay the state $284,053 in for unpaid taxes and liens.
