New sounds from Thievery Corporation

Others may not be familiar with Thievery Corporation, so here it goes. Thievery Corporation is made up of two artists- Eric Hilton and Rob Garza. The band was formed in 1996 and they started out in Washington DC. Their genre is electronic and their music style encompasses a number of music and influences. For those who are deep into music, for sure they will note that the sound and the style of Thievery Corporation resembles that of ambient break-beat, techno, trip hop, club and dance, acid jazz, rock and there are even signs of dance.
According to the band’s bio that is posted on MSN.com, the band is known to make abstract, instrumental and mid-tempo music and the classification of their music falls in between trip hop and acid jazz. The band has so far released some well-done singles and produced on their own Eighteen Street Lounge ESL. Their label is named after their own Washington DC bar and night club. The duo first appeared in the music market in 1997 when they released their debut LP and this was accompanied by the release of the compilation CD of Washington DC-based electronic artists and this was called as Dubbed Out in DC. These two albums were released by their home studio, ESL.
Then the company signed with the British label 4AD and after signing the contract, the duo worked on their second LP. But something happened along the way and they postponed the release date of the said LP after the tapes were stolen in a mugging incident. A remix compilation, the Abductions and Reconstructions was released in 1999 and the second album of the duo called The Mirror Conspiracy followed a year later. The duo also has a Grammys tucked under their belt- it was thru their single “Lebanese Blonde’.
