Green Day’s ‘Breakdown’
You’ve come to know them from their breakthrough success in 1994 with their album Dookie. Included in this album are singles like Basketcase, Longview and When I Come Around. Yes, they are the group you’ve known for years as Green Day.

Their last album, American Idiot, was released in 2004 and has attained commercial success. Even two years after the album’s release, Green Day still received awards and recognition for this album which include a Grammy for Record of The Year for the song Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
And now, after American Idiot, the trio is set to release its newest album entitled “21st Century Breakdown.” It’s the group’s eight studio album to date and is set for a worldwide release on the 15th of May, a Friday.
They started recording in October of 2008 in Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, California. And according to Billy Joe Armstrong, this forthcoming album is “more religious” with the influences of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and The Beatles. And just like the American Idiot, the new album is also narrative in structure which tells of a story of Christian and Gloria, a young couple.
“Breakdown” is also an album divided into acts just like its predecessor. There are three acts namely “Heroes and Cons,” “Charlatan and Saints” and “Horseshoes and Handgrenades.” And this will probably be a good news for Green Day fans out there because the first single is set for a digital release this coming April. The single is entitled “Know Your Enemy.”
Butch Vig, of the band Garbage and who has also worked with Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins in the past is the producer of the album.
More good news for fans is that after the album has been officially released, the trio, Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool, is set to begin a North American tour. European shows are to follow while Japan, Southeast Asia and South America are on the band’s list of tour shows for next year.
