Friday the 13th is the ruler for the week. Lovers and those on a date seem to love this movie remake of the 1980 slash flick. The movie pulled in $42.2 million which is an impressive figure. This is actually a record for the horror genre and this figure submitted by the movie topped the $39.1 million debut of ‘The Grudge’. But in terms of actual tickets sold, ‘The Grudge’ still holds a slim lead. With the new number one on the list, then this means that the former number 1 last week, the romantic ‘He’s Just Not that into You’ falls to second place. This movie still submitted $19.6 million at the end of the week. There is a new movie in town and this is the comedy ‘Confessions of the Shopaholic’ and this one landed on the fourth spot with $15.4 million. The other new entry on the list is ‘The International’ and this opened at number 7 with $10 million. This movie is directed by Marcus Nispel and written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

The 2009 version is actually a reworking of the Friday the 13th film series. And the last film from the series was the 2003 crossover film ‘Freddy vs. Jason’. The movie was released last Friday, on a Friday the 13th and this was released in 3,105 theaters in North America. This movie was given a wide release and just edged out the ‘Freddy vs. Jason’ release by ninety one theaters. The movie is not well received by critics as this can be seen on the many reviews about the film. And based on the 114 reviews that were collected by the Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 27 percent approval ratings coming from critics and the movie registered an average score of 4.3 out of the possible 10 points.
