In fact the band comes in second to Alicia Keys in terms of the number of nominations received.

Coldplay and the veteran rockers Eagles are nominated with four nominations each. Rapper and R&B singers followed these two rock bands, as rap superstar Lil Wayne and the hit-maker Chris Brown was given three nods each for the American Music Awards. These five acts are all nominated for the plum, ‘Artist of the Year’. The American Music Awards will be aired live on November 23 this year from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel is expected to host the show once again.
