Chihuahua continues romp in the box-office
A talking dog takes the crown at the box-office and it seems that moviegoers loved this escapist fare. This can be expected after a hard week of depressing news and people seems to be looking for something that can cheer them up. Drew Barrymore provided the voice for the adorable dog. This was the second week that the movie took the top stop at the box office. With its $17.5 million haul for this week, the total gross of the movie was hiked to $52.5 million. The figure is for a 10-day total and this was according to studio estimates. This movie was the only light movie in the field of heavy drama in the market today. And based on some observers, this movie can be a hit because people have been looking for some form of diversion after having been bombarded with negative news coming from the Wall Street for the past weeks.
Taking the No.2 spot for this week is the fright movie ‘Quarantine’. The movie debuted with $14.2 million and this movie also filled the escapism needs for the horror crowd. The movie focuses on the contagion that turns an apartment building’s tenant into flesh-hungry monsters. Others believe that the top two movies are selling because people are looking for ways on how to escape the bad news, a movie that can take them to other places. The star-studded movie that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Russel Crowe and Ridley Scott took the third spot for this week. The movie, a terrorism thriller on its first week and this raked in $13.1 million. This movie from Warner Bros centers on the CIA operative hunting the terrorist responsible for the many bombings around the world.
