Foo Fighters cry foul over use of song
The Foo Fighters cried foul over the use of their song by the McCain campaign. The camp of McCain used the song of the band, My Hero at rallies without their permission. This was not the first time that the McCain campaigned was sued over a song used in the campaign sorties or rallies. Previously, the singer Jackson Browne also filed a suit against the campaign for suing the song ‘Running on Empty’ without the consent of the singer.
The band shared its thoughts on the move made by the camp of the candidate. They said that it was frustrating and infuriating to note that someone who claims to speak for the American people will show little respect for the creativity and the intellectual property of the band. The band in a press release added that their song ‘My Hero’ was written as a celebration to the common man and also his extraordinary potential. The camp of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was not spared as well. The group Heart was saddened as well by the use of the campaign of the song ‘Barracuda’. This song was used on many events that featured the vice presidential candidate. The song that was used by the campaign of McCain was a track from the band’s 1997 album titled ‘The Colour and the Shape’.
The camp of the band issued the press release in order to notify the camp of the presidential candidate that the band is not happy with the way the song is used. The press release added that they hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and will stop using the song in the campaign rallies. The band added that they should start asking artists’ permission in general. The soul legend Sam Moore also asked the campaign of Barack Obama to stop using ‘Soul Man’.
