Jay-Z to perform for Obama
The hip-hop star is coming out for Barack Obama in a good way. The rap singer will perform for free for Barack thru two concerts this weekend and the aim of the concerts is to prop up voters’ registration and also to campaign for the Democratic presidential nominee.
The first show that will be headlined by Jay-Z will be on Saturday, October 4 and the show is scheduled at the Detroit’s Cobo Arena. The singer is also expected to perform the following day at the Miami’s Bayfront Park Ampitheater. The voter registration for the coming elections will end this Monday.
This isn’t the first time that a high profile hip hop star has dipped his fingers in the political arena. In 2004, Sean Puffy Combs accompanied by Mary J Blige and actor Leonardo DiCaprio told thousands of students at Wayne State University that it was time to elect a new president. That move was known as the Vote or Die: Citizens for Change campaign. That was the voter’s campaign mantra of the rap singer during that time and he declared that though he is not running for office, he is a citizen that is running for change. And now for this year with a historic presidential campaign just weeks away and a few days before the end of voter’s registration; another rap icon is doing his share in making the noises. Now is the turn of rap icon Jay-Z. The rap singer is just the latest high-profile musician that has signed for Obama. Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel signed up as well and it was announced that there will be an October 16 fundraiser at the New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Jay-Z is set to promote voter registration and at the same time encourage young people to get involved in this year’s historic election.
