Paramount and Marvel Studios signed an agreement

Expect Paramount to release the next edition of Iron Man. Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios recently signed an agreement making Paramount the worldwide distributor of Marvel films in the future. The agreement at least covers the next five feature films that will be released by Marvel. The movies that are included in the agreement include the Iron Man2, Iron Man 3, Thor, and the First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers. The last Marvel film that will be premiered and covered by the agreement is The Avengers scheduled for July 2011 release.
The partnership that happened between the two studios was actually just an extension of the 2005 agreement and that early agreement saw Paramount distributing 10 Marvel films. In the original agreement that was signed by the two studios, Marvel retained the six key international markets then sold the rights to the local distributors. And after the success of Iron Man, the two studios decided that it was time to hammer out a more concrete agreement.
Aside from Paramount, there were other studios that were serious in teaming up with Marvel. But it was Paramount who landed all the worldwide theatrical distribution rights on the five releases at a slightly reduced fee based on the original agreement. The studio will get 8 percent distribution fee, down from the 10 percent fee that was stated in the original agreement. Not all movies by Marvel will be under the direction of Paramount though. In the case of the Iron Man 2, the German rights to the movie were an exemption since the rights was already secured by Tele-Munchen. Both the leaders from the two studios admitted that there was indeed a need to formalize the new distribution agreement. And the success of the first Iron Man even made it more important for the two studios to consolidate ranks.
