Metallica in the running for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
For next year’s inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Run DMC and Metallica are some of the nominees. Stooges are also another nominee and these three round up the nine on the list of nominees for induction for next year’s ceremony. The selection of these nominees was announced Monday. Other noteworthy singers and acts that were included on the list include Jeff Beck, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony, the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack and Chic. Chic was the only nominee back from last year’s ballot. Of these nine acts on the list of nominees, the top five vote getters will be inducted on April 4, 2009 in Cleveland. The announcement of the latest addition to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be announced January next year.
For the most part of the decade the ceremony was held in New York but for next year, the ceremony will be going back to Cleveland. The show was absent on Cleveland for more than a decade, and for the first time the tickets will be made available to the public. For last year’s ceremony, rap was given the entrance to the Hall of Fame. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were inducted into the Rock Hall and this opened the doors for many other rap artists. For this year, it is Run DMC’s turn to make its presence felt. Perhaps the more interesting addition to the nominee list will be Metallica. Metallica first wowed the music industry thanks to its heavy metal sound in the 80s. And up until this time, Metallica is still selling records, and topping the charts. Just this month the band released is new album and its album once again made its mark on the charts. Bon Jovi and Stevie Ray Vaughan were left out for this year’s ballot.
