A Visit of Emma Thompson on Brideshead
Brideshead Revisited is the original TV series worth remembering and worth watching again and again. The characters were successfully performed by young Jeremy Irons and an equally young Anthony Andrews. At the time, the series was the talk of the water cooler in England way back in 1980’s. From week to week, the public spell bound was anticipation of just what would become of the romance happening between Charles (Irons) and Sebastian (Andrews). This relationship will later end up taking care of a teddy bear, Aloysius.
Along with the other successful TV series such as Sex and the City, Batman, and The X Files, it was now the time of the Brideshead Revisited to receive makeover. When Charles became a part of the Brideshead, he became fascinated with the upper class that led to his fixation. Emma Thompson played the role of Lady Marchmain, the Sebastian’s mother. She is a sanctimonious moralist and the Seb’s sister.
The story enters its climactic phase with a cloaked insight into the upper debauchery in an England that existed long before the working class provoked an indecent arrival into the world of their upper class snobbery and British aristocracy.
More than adequately, Emma Thompson portrays the power struck, dominating matriarchal figure who could send any offspring in the world of alcoholism, rebellion and sexual insecurity.
